AWANA
Every Sunday evening at 6:25 p.m., the halls of Barboursville Baptist
Church come alive with the voices of active children, ages 3 through
6th grade, who are gathering to accomplish six goals:
- To memorize the Bible since the Bible is the foundation of
everything that we do at AWANA.
- To remember that God always does
the right thing and helps us to know the right thing to do, too.
- To
help our children learn that they have sinned, as have we all.
But, this sin separates us from God.
- To teach our children that
God loves them so much that He wants to be reconciled to them
through Jesus Christ, His Son.
- To help them to understand that they
need to trust in Jesus as their Savior and acknowledge that His
death on the cross
paid the penalty for their sins.
- To share the amazing gift
of eternal life with our loving God and Savior Jesus Christ in
heaven!
To help this to occur in their lives, AWANA uses fun events, weekly
Bible memorization recited to adults in the church (called “listeners”),
games, snacks and more!
Between Sundays, children memorize Scriptures to recite to their
listener on Sunday to earn extra AWANA shares and other awards. The
children are paired with adult listeners so that they learn to relate
with adults and to build a relationship between our generations.
May we suggest a couple of things? When you pick your child up from
AWANA, ask them what they learned and what game they liked the best!
Then throughout the week, work with them to memorize the Scripture
for the next Sunday. You’ll be amazed at how much you enjoy
growing with your child and seeing what they are learning.
