Cross Training Ministries
This exciting group of young adults come together two ways: in
person and via electronic media. They need to be reached, we all
agree. But, having someone with the old school thought pattern trying
to force them into the older models of ministry doesn’t work.
It only frustrates them and the Church.
One of our young adults met
with our Pastor a few weeks ago and said, “I just want to
help change the perspective of this generation. They’re
not in church because they don’t
communicate in the traditional ways.”
Wanting to transition
our Sunday evening worship service, many of the members of our
new praise team are actually members of
the Cross
Training Ministry Group. They are genuinely seeking to serve God
in their new way and are providing leadership in a wonderfully-refreshing
way. They sing and provide media ministries to the re-created
service, “Encounter.”
A few weeks ago, they began weekly
Bible studies on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Kevin is their facilitator.
He is 26 years old and
understands
this generation. But, Kevin has lived enough of life to have made
some mistakes. And, while it’s true that we all make mistakes,
Kevin is man enough to say, “I don’t ever want anyone
to go through what I went through.” So, Kevin works hard
to keep in touch with the other young adults and help them find
ways
to walk away from addictions and other destructive behavior. Kevin’s
passion is to serve God in all ways of his life. As he says, the
Bible study doesn’t have to end at 8:00 p.m. It continues
through the forum where these group members may share prayer requests,
ask questions, share concerns, and more.
Kevin and Pastor Craig
have also met and are developing a presence on myspace.com. This
will be available soon and will give us yet
another way to keep in touch with young adults and disciple them
into what God desires them to be. Once this is available, we’ll
provide the link to this on this page. This should be up and running
by the end of October, 2007.
Of course, as good Baptists, once
they finish Bible study, they usually go out and eat dinner. You’re
welcome to join them.
